GitHub App review
How Alcove’s GitHub App reviews trip PRs — and who owns resolution.
Alcove installs as a GitHub App on the repos you select. On relevant pull requests it leaves adversarial review comments: assumptions to challenge, proxies to name, gaps that would bite in the real world.
What the App does
- Reads the PR against the trip standard and hard constraints
- Comments on material risks and weak justifications
- Opens or continues unresolved threads when findings need follow-up
- Does not push to
mainor merge for you
A separate watch agent (when enabled) may open PRs when external reality materially changes. That is still a proposal — you decide.
Who owns resolution
The reviewer owns resolution of Alcove threads — typically the traveler or a designated human on the trip. Agents may propose fixes; they do not mark review complete by asserting agreement in chat.
Resolving a thread means the concern is answered in the repo: a linked research/experiment Issue, a concrete PR change, or an explicit deferral the traveler accepts.
Relationship to CI
| Layer | Role |
|---|---|
| Deterministic CI | Fail impossible states only |
| Alcove review | Challenge assumptions; may disagree without blocking merge by itself |
| Traveler | Merge decides |
Hard CI and soft review are different jobs. Do not encode taste into CI just because a review comment was sharp.
